USA: do not assume an $800 exemption

Low value does not mean automatic duty-free entry.

CBP reports global suspension of general de minimis treatment from 29 August 2025. Do not use the old $800 threshold as an automatic exemption for commercial e-commerce shipments.

Postal and non-postal entry procedures can differ. Check entry type, origin, product and current tariffs. Genuine gift and traveler exceptions must not be confused with commercial orders.

Pre-shipment checklist

• Is the shipment accurately declared as commercial?
• Were entry type and duty obligations checked?
• Does the recipient know expected charges?
